From Now On  (2022)

Tall blocks of apartments engulfed the open spaces which separated one family home from another. Spaces for recreation, meditation, and connection; always in transition.

Villa Tres Vientos derives its name from the openness which surrounded it, evident in its name: the house exposed to the three winds. It is the only remaining family home with a drive-in and garden. The space was a welcoming space to three generations.  It was a space where friends and family came together to play, sing and dance. It was a space for reinforcing and cultivating relationships. A space which remained unchanged throughout the passage of time.

Coming back to this space has unfolded elements of nostalgia and various memories and experiences. Yet its story continues. The transformation into my place of work enables new narratives to be written, new stories to be told, ideas to be shared, and more memories to be remembered

The point of departure for this project was bound by a general interest in the exploration of memory, experience, and anticipation. A collection of still images dating back over 50 years, triggered a process of further research, delving into the collection of photos from family archives which featured this space across time.

Essentially, the project developed in three trajectories

Firstly, the creation of photographic composites, an amalgamation of the different occurrences within the space.

The second selection of photographic documentation from the archives, evidence of the three generations and the experience of the space itself.

Thirdly, a participatory element, where attendees were invited to write or sketch something on three posters.

From – People wrote down any memories in the space.

Now – People wrote about their experience of the space on the day of the event.

On – People were asked to write how they envisage the place to transform in the future, or what can it become.
